Did you Know - Toronto Neighbourhood facts
…that Riverside is also known as South Riverdale and the informal entrance to the East Side is marked by a spectacular bridge on Queen Street East and is known as one of the loveliest bridges in the city. The words, “THIS RIVER I STEP IN IS NOT THE RIVER I STAND IN.” is sculpted above the bride at the top of the archway to welcome all who enter the East.

Riverside, also knows as South Riverdale, is the neighbourhood to the immediate East of the Don River Valley Bridge. A good neighbour to Leslieville to the East, and Riverdale to the North, Riverside stretches from the Don River Valley on its West boundary, Gerrard St to the North, Lakeshore to the South, and Logan to the East.

Experiencing an ongoing revitalization with a lovely selection of businesses and cozy streets, converted lofts and parks, Riverside feels like part of a small town that is actually only a few kilometers from the downtown core. Riverside offers easy access to the Don River Valley ravine system, central transit lines, and everything from ping-pong to rock climbing, falafel to sushi, and coffee shops to clothing shops.

An exciting landmark of this burgeoning community is the almost opened Broadview Hotel, a boutique hotel and community hot spot that will replace the notorious strip club that was once housed in this Heritage building at the corner of Broadview and Queen St. East. Destined to become the East side’s Gladstone Hotel, but with the trademark relaxed and approachable feel of the East side, this development is sure to see even more positive growth in the area. Riverside will also see a number of new developments between the Don Valley and Broadview that will transform the area into a bustling centre for condo dwellers and new businesses.

The Riverside BIA helps to create a rich community life for this small but mighty neighbourhood, with many events each year from outdoor festivals to art fairs, wine tastings to walking tours, that highlight the unique character and street life of this growing community.

Jackie is a longtime visitor to Riverside, having lived in neighbouring Leslieville for almost ten years and visiting her mum who worked at the then named Riverdale Hospital until retirement. From her favourite chiropractor, her son’s favourite wading pool, to a cozy restaurant perfect for date nights, let Jackie tell you more about what Riverside has to offer!
